How many of us can honestly say we do not suffer from at least one of the following:
Colds or viruses each year
Allergies or hay fever
Extra pounds that won't come off
Restless nights
Recurrent indigestion, constipation, or irritable bowel syndrome
Itchy skin, acne, or any other troubling skin condition
Depression, anxiety, or frequent fatigue
If you were to seek medical advice for any of the above, you would likely be prescribed pills, topical lotions, injections, or even surgery. Such treatments are used to manage the symptoms and do not address the root of the problem. Too often, doctors treat these common ailments as inevitable costs of living a modern life. The result is a patchwork approach to health care that has become the norm.
In Clean, a New York City cardiologist and a leader in the field of integrative medicine, Dr. Alejandro Junger offers a major medical breakthrough. Dr. Junger argues that the majority of these common ailments are the direct result of toxic buildup in our systems accumulated through the course of our daily lives. As the toxicity of modern life increases and disrupts our systems on a daily basis, bombarding us through our standard American diet and chemical-filled environments, our ability to handle the load hasn't accelerated at the same rapid pace. The toxins are everywhere, but Clean offers a solution.
Clean is an M.D.'s program that provides all the tools necessary to support and reactivate our detoxification system to its fullest capabilities, and can be easily incorporated into a busy schedule. The effect is transformative: nagging health problems will suddenly disappear, extra weight will drop away, and for the first time in our lives we will experience what it truly means to feel healthy.
Every day spent on the Clean program is a major step in healing not just the symptom but the root of the problem, effectively and simply. Dr. Junger's life-changing program restores what rightfully belongs to you?your health, vitality, and peace of mind.
Clean: The Revolutionary Program to Restore the Body's Natural Ability to Heal ItselfAugust 6, 2010 perky gal 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is excellent in that it fully explains how different foods work for or against us in obtaining wellness and losing weight. It goes further and even gives you sample menus and recipes. This is the most expansive and helpful book I've read on the subject.
Clean ExperienceJuly 31, 2010 barbara 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dr. Junger's authentic and straight forward approach to writing this book, inspired me to go on and do the Cleanse. His personal journey resonated quickly and easily with my own insight and experiences. His suggestions and tips to add into one's Clean Program beyond the food aspect is absolutely brilliant. After doing the Cleanse, I kissed that book! The key is to combine both of them. Clean and The Cleanse. He even has a Clean Community Website for support. 5 stars.
Renewed!July 31, 2010 Kelly Giuliano(NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I needed something to get myself back on track after getting lazy with my diet. After seeing Dr. Junger on 'The Martha Stewart Show' my interest was peaked. Besides reading the book I also bought the CLEAN KIT and joined the online community support group. CLEAN has changed the way I think about food and eating. I am liberated from my obsession with food and I am feeling great, I am not hungry all the time and I have no cravings. I am no longer bloated and I went down 3 holes on my belt in 21 days!
Waste of money....July 29, 2010 New home owner(Seattle, WA) 0 out of 8 found this review helpful
I spent the money on this book, but didn't go on the program because I thought it sounded ridiculous and unhealthy. I'm not overweight, but I've heard so much about this "cleansing" stuff that I wanted to see if there was any value in it. So far, I haven't found any evidence that there is. I haven't found any ideas in this or any book like it that a person can't come up with on their own.
For one thing, there are no magic diets or substitutes for a well-balanced diet. We all know that if we eat junk and don't exercise we'll be fat. That's just simple logic. So, anyone can cut out the junk, get off the couch and start moving and they will lose weight. We don't need to read how, we can just do it. And, I don't believe all the hype about cleaning "toxins" out of your body. The body does a very good job of this on its own - that's what our intestines and kidneys are for.
No diet, or plan, or program that promotes starvation is good for your body. I threw the book away. It was a waste of my money, and it'll be a waste of yours.
One of the better detox booksJuly 28, 2010 Destiny Traphofner(New York, NY) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I found this book while looking for a way to detox and lose weight fast. The majority of the book discusses his theories about detoxing based on his experiences. He states himself that there is no real scientific evidence because no one can get funding to research fruits and vegetables. Overall I felt his theories were pretty logical and believable.I lost 7 pounds over 2 weeks on his plan. Despite being hungry the first week things actually got better the second week and I felt pretty good. I did not continue to the third week as recommended because I was craving real food again. I have been juicing and making smoothies part time since the official detox. My biggest complaint is that many of the recipes contained obscure, expensive, and unusual ingredients. I usually left these out and the recipes turned out ok. The fruit based smoothies and butternut squash soups were good, but without a juicer the vegetable based soups/smoothies were pretty hideous. Also, there were some instructions left out. They stated for you to peel a butternut squash. If you can do that you are a better person than I am. I had to cook it to get the rind off. Also I found the squash did not blend well and tasted bad when not cooked. Overall I found this book to be helpful and one of the better detox books I have read.
