Amazon.com Review Even well-versed Biblical scholars might be perplexed if asked about Jabez, a little-known man listed in 1 Chronicles, chapter 4. Yet his simple petition is the cornerstone of The Prayer of Jabez and has become a call to live a more "blessed life" for countless readers.
The prayer is a simple one: "And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, 'Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain.' So God granted him what he requested."
In an era where many Christians shy away from anything that smacks of "name it and claim it," author Bruce Wilkinson alleviates misgivings by putting the prayer into perspective. Wilkinson, founder and president of Walk thru the Bible Ministries and a popular speaker for Promise Keepers, writes in a persuasive, conversational style that will woo even the most cynical reader. He has used the Jabez prayer for more than 30 years, and testifies enthusiastically to the changes it has wrought in his own life. Wilkinson challenges readers to recite the Jabez prayer every morning and keep a record of the changes that occur. The power, he emphasizes, is not in the prayer itself, but "rather, the power is in what you believe will happen as a result of the prayer, and the action you take." Wilkinson makes a convincing case. --Cindy Crosby
Prosperity Gospel?December 12, 2009 Mark K. Wickersham(Tianjin, China) I read this little book a couple of times nearly a decade ago when it was extremely popular in the States. The Prayer of Jabez was a #1 New York Times Bestseller that attempts to show readers how to ask for a life of abundant impact and significance for God. Jabez was more honorable than his brothers and asked our Heavenly Father for territorial gain and spiritual blessing. There are over 500 names in 1 Chronicles, and only Jabez receives the special comment of a request being made and granted. Our Father wants to shower us with His gifts. We unlock change in our lives and in our world when we choose to do what He wants in His way. We simply need to ask. It should be noted that many conservative evangelicals (which could describe myself) feel Wilkinson's interpretation of 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 is a form of prosperity gospel. When I read this as a new believer years ago, I felt even then that this book treated the King of Kings almost like a genie in a bottle.
Small but powerful bookNovember 11, 2009 Tampa Quilter(Tampa, FL USA) This small book is a quick read with only 7 chapters. It was recommended by a friend who said I should read it through at least once, and then thereafter read just one chapter every morning so that by the end of each week, I will have read the book through again. I pass that suggestion on to you. Its powerful message may change your life.

This is a quick little book on prayer, a specific prayer found in 1 Chronicles 4:10, prayed by a litle known character in the Bible. It's an interesting prayer that should bring strength, blessings, and keep you from evil. Try it.
Prayer of JabezJuly 28, 2009 Sandra K. Stiles(Sarasota, Florida) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was a gift to me. It takes two verses from the Bible's Old Testament and gives the reader hope. Based on 1Chronicles 4:9-10 It takes a simple prayer and teaches us to ask God to bless us and help us prosper. There are many places in t the readerhe Bible that show the reader that God wants us to prosper. This is another example of that promise.

It's a wonderful small book with a big message that would change the world if everybody would pray this prayer.
