Product Description "From Ketchup to Pretzels, Shampoo to Window Cleaner, Bug Repellant to Cough Drops"
Making the things you use everyday is just so much more rewarding than buying them. This guide shows you how fun, easy, and frugal it can be. Start in the kitchen: spaghetti sauce, salad dressing, chicken broth, ice cream all taste better and cost less when you make them at home. Move to the cleaning shelf. Store-bought cleaners are toxic and outrageously expensive! Homemade shows you how to make them at a fraction of the cost, with the same cleaning potency, but safer and more fragrant! Tablecloths, trivets, curtains, toys, wall art -- learn how to make all of these quickly, cheaply, and with flair.
great bookJuly 4, 2010 pcook I have used this book several times. I make my own laundry detergent and I am well satisified with it. I also make my own cleaning products and window cleaner, all with the instructions in this book. My daughter and my sister ordered one and they too have used it frequently.
Very Useful with many Natural Products you can make at HomeMay 3, 2010 C. Irish(Placerville, CA) I really like this book. Inside the pages of Reader's Digest Homemade, are recipes for hundreds of things. If you are going green around the house, there are many homemade cleaner recipes from recipies for shower cleaner, to oven cleaner to window cleaner, etc. These are easy recipes with ingredients you may already have around the house. It will save you money because lots of the things for cleaners use the same inexpensive ingredients. With things like Borax, Vinegar, and washing soda you can use those three ingredients for many cleaning jobs.
There are lots of easy recipes for food, beauty products, pet products and birdseed mixes, cleaning agents and just all kinds of neat information and recipes that you can whip up without buying lots of individual expensive cleaners and products.
I really love this book and the more you read it the more information you gleam from it's informative pages. There are lots of things even kids can make like: peanut butter cups and homemade marshmellows.
There are recipes for pet foods, people food and snacks and salad dressings, jams and jellies, ice cream and frozen yogurt, and the great thing is they are easy to use with many ingredients that are easy to find.
There is a great section on beauty products where you can make your own sugar or salt scrubs, mouthwash, toothpaste, face masks, hair tonics, shaving creams, moisterisers and herbal remedies and teas. This is just a great book full of fun projects to make and use at home inexpensively. From laundry detergent to dish soap and bubble baths. It's a wonderful book.
Cool BookApril 24, 2010 Michael Hamilton Neat idea. Lots of practical applications though it will takes months or years to try it all out. I am heading out today to get a few of the baking and soap making basics.
great resourceApril 13, 2010 ljm1180(Tennessee) I've owned this book for several years and just purchased a copy for my mother-in-law. It is a fantastic resource for homemade cleaners (laundry soap, dishwasher soap, window cleaner), pet products, food items (homemade versions of box mixes etc.), health & beauty stuff and more. It also has lots of great recipes! I recommend this book for anyone looking for easy ways to save money. All of the products I've used so far have been as good or better than their store-bought counterparts and less expensive as well.
very interesting...June 17, 2009 eager reader(USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a 379 page book split in three sections: "In the Kitchen", "Health and Beauty Care for You and Yours", and ""Around the House". There ARE alot of food recipes. It's also a fun quirky read, filled with what looks like practical concoctions to make your own cleaning supplies. I admit I haven't used it alot yet, but I've enjoyed reading through it so far.
